5-Star Review from Alex

TLDR: If you want a system that you KNOW works and that you can put blind faith in, and the company and individuals that stand behind it, look no further. These folks are the best, and plan to be the best for a long time.

Longer:

I found AM Solar online and hired them to install a large and complicated system in my 2007 Newmar All Star. (41' Class A) My wife and I live and work remotely in it full time. We are both employed full-time and require an RV electrical system that is indestructible and powerful. We chose AM Solar because of the positive reviews people have written here. They were also cheaper than another quote we got for a similar system, though admittedly still MUCH pricier than installing it all ourselves. I was happy to pay the price because I wanted to be able to call someone as invested in the project as I was if ever it ceased to work like it should and we happened to be far from civilization. It sounded like they might be.

Having the system installed, I'm now sure of that. They love the work they do. They care about the systems they install and they get that people's experience during and after installation is what is going to keep business successful. So far, I haven't needed to even pick up the phone because the system is superlative, intuitive, and most importantly: works like a dream. It's also a work of art, with beautiful detail of installation which I didn't expect since they weren't the most expensive option, nor did I think was it possible to make an electrical system a thing of beauty.

Their pride in their work is self-evident. If you want a system that works, this is the place to go. You can do it cheaper yourself for sure, but when it's time to hire, save the massive headaches and use these guys. Not only will you not have headaches or waste time, it will be a truly pleasant experience at a price point that shouldn't merit such great care. They're efficient and experienced enough in their work that they can create a customer experience superior every other RV experience I've had and still beat competitor installation pricing.

Further, the manner in which they carry themselves and conduct business is nothing short of exemplary, to the point of materially diminishing their own profit for the satisfaction of their customer.

I would hire again, and wouldn't spend even a moment shopping around.

1-Star Review:

Supposedly friendly to DIY. Purchased a lithium control board after hearing how they work. Would have been perfect for my setup. They demanded immediately for me to send it back as it was an “error” for me to purchase. Their tech guy tried to BS me with reasons as to why it wasn’t a good fit when he didn’t even ask what the fit or how my setup is/was. Called them out on it before they corrected their statements as I lm an engineer as well and pointed out their bogus claims. I would have kept it but it was defective on the charge port input (outputs wouldn’t respond to input) so had no choice.

After returning they refused to send out a replacement. They also conveniently “forgot” to refund me for several weeks until I followed up.

I would still like the unit but they are extremely difficult to deal with. They provide zero support (which I needed very little of) and they don’t necessarily want your business. This review is from an actual paying customer. I was shocked as they are supposedly helpful with good reviews but my experience from the get go was pretty hostile and bad.

Owner Response:

I remember a day in the first grade when the teacher asked everyone in class what they wanted to be when they grew up. I said “I want to be an engineer.” I remember being slightly miffed when she interpreted that as me wanting to drive trains. The point is, there are many types of engineers: Electrical, Mechanical, and Pseudo. The Electrical Engineers that I graduated with were a meticulous group, that would carefully read product specifications and wouldn’t try to use components specifically designed for lithium batteries with an external BMS of one brand, on lithium batteries that have an internal BMS of another brand, then simultaneously complain that it didn’t work, while asking how it was supposed to be set up. There is a lot more I could write about this transaction, but enough time has been wasted.
